EXAMINATION SUMMARY

The Certified Gambling Addiction Specialist examination is based upon contemporary knowledge as evidenced by scientific and clinical literature, journal articles, scholarly reports and clinical research in the field of gambling addiction. The examination represents current views of national subject matter experts in knowledge relevant to understanding and advancing theory, methodology, and practice in the treatment of gambling addiction.

The CGAS certification exam reflects the view of the Academy that there is a synergistic relationship between addiction science and addiction practice.  Advances in addiction theory and research have led to the increasing use of evidence-based practice guidelines.  Implementation of these advances provides evidence that serve to refine and improve clinical theory and practice.

The Certified Gambling Addiction Specialist certification reflects the Academy’s expectation that its members are committed to a philosophy
of life-long learning.

The CGAS certification exam is a proctored online exam consisting of 125 multiple-choice questions. For additional information, please download the application packet, or email info@americanacademy.org, or call the Academy office at 218.727.3940.
